What to do in Calgary for Canada Day

We've got a list of some things going on in Calgary for Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day, Calgary!

Here’s some of what’s going on in Calgary:

East Village street fair

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: East Village District, 439 8 Avenue SE

Live music by Los Majes and Rick Poltaruk will be starting at 11 a.m.

 

Canada Day block party

When: 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Where: Max Bell Centre, 1001 Barlow Trail S.E.

This all-ages event also has free kids activities running from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Canada Day at Eau Claire Market

When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Eau Claire Market Plaza

Live music, an artisan market and food trucks.

 

Riverfront Stage

On Riverfront Avenue

One City, One Voice, amateur choir performance open to all citizens (6:30-7:30 p.m.), Shred Kelly (8-8:45 p.m.), Alex Cuba (9-9:45 p.m.) and Corb Lund (10-11 p.m.).

 

Prince’s Island Park

When: 11 am – 5 pm

Where: 698 Eau Claire Ave. SW

Célébration Franco-Albertaine: Carnival and interactive games, wheel of fortune, mascots, music, food tent and maple taffy truck.

Powwow & Indigenous Showcase: Drummers, dance, children’s tent, artisan market, teachings, storytelling and more.

Turban Eh!: Learn about the significance of the turban to the Sikh community. Experience a different culture while having your head wrapped in a turban.

 

Riverfront Avenue

When: 11am-5pm

Where: 1 St and Macleod Trail S.E 

Military Showcase: Featuring engineering and historical displays, military equipment you can touch and explore, and Canadian Armed Forces members to meet.

 

Canada Day Enmax fireworks

When: 11 p.m. to 11:20 p.m.

Where: Fireworks will be set off from the Centre Street Bridge

King Eddy Canada Day lumberjack party

When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: King Edward Hotel, 438 9 Avenue S.E.

Hosting live music and pub food to celebrate Canada’s birthday, There is a $10 cover charge to see performers Matt Blais, Bebe Buckskin and Jack Lumber Band.

**Those aged 16 and under will get in free to the King Eddy on July 1.

 

Heritage Park Canada Day

When: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Heritage Park, 1900 Heritage Drive S.W.

Parade, line dancers, juggling and mini horses.

There will also be a free pancake breakfast to the first 2,018 guests at the park with paid admission before 10:30 a.m. on July 1.

 

Central Library

When: 11am to 4pm

Where: 616 Macleod Tr. S.E

Storytimes, Canada-themed selfie station, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, and giant chess and Jenga.

 

Chinatown

When: Noon-5pm

Where: 2nd & 3rd Ave between Centre St and 1st St S.E.

Merchants along 2nd Avenue S.E., money-grabbing machine, karaoke, face painters, pickleball, mahjong, and Chinese chess.

 

Chinese Cultural Centre

When: Noon-7 pm

Where:197 1St SW

Cultural performances, food market.

 

Fort Calgary

When: 9am-4pm

Where Fort Calgary 750 9th Ave S.E

Free scones for the first 1,000 guests, music, food trucks, Bow River paddling race (starting at 10 a.m.) and family activities.

 

Sien Lok Park

When: 11am-5pm

Where: Riverfront Avenue and 1st Street S.W.

Celebrate the Sien Lok Society’s 50th anniversary with 50 Reasons to Visit Chinatown. Play badminton, volleyball and more.

 

Stephen Ave Walk

Heart for Art art walk presented by Canadian Artists for the Poor (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); performances at Downtown Calgary’s Summer Stage (between Centre Street and 1st Street S.E.) including The Rondel Roberts Band (11-11:55 a.m.), Magik Spells (12:15-1:10 p.m.), High Love (1:30-2:25 p.m.), Randi Boulton (2:45-3:40 p.m.) and Randy Woods Band (4-4:55 p.m.); and Salsa on the Streets, presented by the Hispanic Arts Society with music by the Klave Latin Band (100W block, 6-9 p.m.)

 

Studio Bell

When: 10am-5pm

Where: Studio Bell, 850 4th St. S.E.

Free

Featuring an “O Canada” sing-along, duelling pianos, Cue Steps Round Dance Club, Bell virtual reality experience, Kimball Theatre Organ performances (11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.), pop-up demos of National Music Centre performances and more.
