Getting people where they need to go safely, quickly and comfortably is fundamental to economic growth and building an inclusive society, I’m very pleased to see how these new projects -- like the Green Line LRT -- will result in widespread benefits for Calgary transit users.Kent HehrMinister, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre
After a long day spent working hard, you expect clean, efficient public transit to get you home on time. A modern public transit system means shorter commute times, less air pollution, more time with family and friends, and stronger economic growth. Now is the time to invest in building new urban transit networks.
We’ve made historic investments in public transit systems across the country to improve commute times, reduce air pollution, and create well-paying middle class jobs. The Federal Government is committed to its $1.5B to the Calgary Green line.
To support the next phase of ambitious public transit projects, our government is investing $20.1 billion to support urban public transit networks and service extensions.
To ensure that public transit dollars are invested in a way that makes the most sense for you and for Canadians’ diverse transit needs, our government is working closely with provinces and territories. We have built partnerships that are already bringing positive change to Canadian communities.
This historic investment will make it possible for Canadian communities, like ours, to build the new urban transit networks and service extensions that will transform the way we live, move and work.
It will mean new transit lines, more buses, and more reliable service.
