Funding Calgary’s Infrastructure –  Finally!

With the previous federal government, Calgary never received its fair share of infrastructure funding. Our government is different. We said we’d invest in Alberta – and we’re investing in a big way.

For comparison:

Alberta is now receiving $3.4 billion for important, badly-needed projects that will benefit communities for many years to come. Plus, by #BuildingOurCommunities, we’re creating jobs. Below are just a few of the ways we’re  investing record-breaking amounts into Calgary.

Public Transit

$482 million for Calgary’s public transit infrastructure:

Affordable Housing

I’m incredibly proud of our new National Housing Strategy. It’s a game-changer, investing $40 billion to drastically improve access to affordable housing. Details on Calgary-specific investments will come as we move forward. The Strategy includes a National Housing Co-Investment Fund, which housing providers can apply for now. Projects should include multiple partners and help people in greatest need.

Arts and Culture Spaces

$13 million in Calgary Centre to build or upgrade performance and rehearsal spaces, and buy new equipment. Recipients include the National Music Centre, Folk Festival Society of Calgary, Shakespeare by the Bow, and many more. Visit my Arts page for details.

Flood mitigation

$10.5 million for infrastructure to prevent flooding and damage in Calgary. This includes upgrades to groundwater and stormwater infrastructure, a flood protection berm, and a new pump station. For comparison, between 2006 and 2014, Infrastructure Canada invested $0 in Calgary flood mitigation.

$120,000+ to help make workplaces and community spaces more accessible for people with a disability. Enabling Accessibility Fund applications are open until May 24, 2018 for mid-sized projects of up to $3 million. Small-sized project funding recipients:
